Despite my heartbreak over the results, I want to break down why my prediction missed the mark, explore the reasons Kamala Harris lost, and try to understand how America could re-elect Donald Trump after everything he’s said and done over the past four years.
Your predictions were based on intelligent rationale but America public is not rational and still isn't ready to elect a woman. Even a male liar who bullies and boasts is perceived as a strong man who can protect and fix everything ......even though he is the culprit. Someday upcoming generations will think differently. Keep at it.
I agree with your reasons we lost sadly we let the heritage foundation in to run our country.. I'm terrified as a middle income person who has saved and still working even though I'm old as dirt. I don't know what will happen to me. But I'm worried about all,all of the other issues that people ignored. Been an active citizen for almost 50 years. Been vocal, contacted our elected officials, marched protested. Horribly worried and concerned about the reasons people voted this in. That leaves me with no hope. I'll be biting my tongue maybe when people complain. I look at folks around me differently. Hate won. The young people I work with don't know what eggs cost. Dash you did an amazing job. Appreciate you. And thanks and I hope you do continue to hang in with us
Thank you, Josh. Much older than you at 73 today, I appreciate your thoughts very much and appreciate the time you took to make this. We were all optimistic but didn’t comprehend the level of “stupid” out there. It’s heartbreaking that a third of the country didn’t even bother to vote. I’m gobsmacked, as we all are. Your points about racism and misogyny are well taken. And the power of the right wing echo sphere is something we need to address while moving forward. Yes, even with a broken heart at 73, I still want to move forward. Cheers!
You are not alone -- so many of us believed that Americans would go out in record numbers for Kamala - or anyone! -- over a lying greedy demented fascist rapist criminal. I am in shock that so many women voted for Trump, or didn't vote. I really really appreciate your voice, and your optimism - we need that, especially now. Thanks Dash!
We have a very low educated populace and they didn't understand what was being said to them. Trump made it simple because of their simple minds and his constant lying to them. They also don't understand consequences of choices.
Russia has been allowed to infiltrate our social media and government because apparently money is the most important commodity to rich people. They only care about themselves. They will use up people and the planet until there's nothing left except the competition between all of the rich.
I hope they choke on every single penny they've made off the backs of other humans.
Most people don't want to understand that they are the creators of their lives. When things go wrong they want to blame everyone else instead of looking within.
Some white people are such cowards because they base their lives in fear. They attack others to make themselves feel better. They're also too lazy to become critical thinkers and try to understand the big picture of what government is and how it's supposed to operate. They don't understand economics and how it works. They listen to propaganda and misinformation and think that it's truth rather than doing their own research. Education is important but trump and his minions are going to fuck that up along with the economy. Everything they do is out of fear. People who supported him are now finding out what their future is going to look like and it certainly isn't pretty.
The only people benefiting from trump in office is him grifting millions of taxpayers monies and his evil minions, his grifting family, his grifting minions, republikkkans in Congress and putin and Musk.
Maybe our country earned this by complacency, believing that people could see and understand truth. Truth is, people are lazy about wanting to be a better version of themselves. They don't value themselves, therefore they don't value others.
There are always going to be bad people in the world that want it all regardless of the outcome and consequences to others.
I hope one day we can earn our democracy back and appreciate the goodness it gives us.
Haven’t listened but I wrote this on another one of your posts and it seems to have magically disappeared
We lost because we deserved to
While we are all focused on Trump’s insane rallies and cognitive decline, and raving about Kamala’s glitzy events, much of America was focused on:
-our indifference re: the border for years (Harris laughing off Lester Holt’s question about “why haven’t you been to the border?) mattered. The ad it produced was devastating. She never rebutted it
- Our support of things like sanctuary cities
- Kamala saying insane shit like “we’ll use taxpayer money so prisoners can get sex changes”. She never rebutted it
- Not having an answer to “what wd you have done differently from Biden?” He’s a historically unpopular President and she HAD to know that question was coming. She whiffed. Nothing. And if you look at the clip and understand body/eye language, she clearly didn’t even believe that herself.
Look within Dems. America just rejected us BIG time. And The Squad can fuck off. They hassled her relentlessly because of her position on Gaza. Thanks. Enjoy while Trump stands by and lets it get leveled and Kushner turns it into a $10B development project.
Dash, I so appreciate your posts and am encouraged by how well you articulate the issues of this election! I was also optimistic with a knit in my stomach. I worried from the start because Kamala was a woman. This fact alone, I think, was more important to Dems lost. BECAUSE she is a woman, she was held to an unrealistic higher standard that every woman who broke a glass ceiling experienced and has to continue to perform to rise above! While I can easily fall into the thinking that a woman will never win the presidency in this country and I was so positive this was our time to win, we have to recognize that Kamala did break a glass ceiling. Not only was she a Democratic nominee, she served as VP. You would think that would be qualification enough, but it was a step forward, so there will be opportunities in the future, especially for your generation.
While we debrief this election cycle, let us look forward with positivity and joy, become more strategic with our messaging NOW to call out what Trump isn’t doing at the beginning of his term and that he’s living on Biden and Harris’s policies and economy. Be gracious to ourselves for the work we did, the money we raised, the faith we have, the principles we hold dear and defend and MOVE FORWARD! We need leaders like you. Keep the faith.
2. You made many good points, particularly about her weak performance in the primaries. I remember thinking back then “I really like her but would America elect a black woman?” We have our answer.
3. Your analysis relies almost exclusively on blaming exogenous factors - mainly the media, inflation. Fact is, she made many crucial mistakes (see my earlier comment), and considering she had 2 strikes against her going in (black, woman) she had zero margin for error.
4. We are also to blame. The warning signs were there for everyone to see but almost everyone ignored them. When she was basically tied the last few weeks, even behind in some polls, I took note. If he was performing that well after 9 years of crimes and insanity, it was obvious ppl didn’t care about that.
Believing late deciders were breaking for her, that the polls were disingenuously propped up by the GOP flooding the zone with garbage, and other points of delusion … the Dems got high on their own supply
Have to say that while she would have delivered for working class voters more than half of America watches Faux News so they did not know she had what they needed. Also, they don't vote for what they need. What they wanted delivered was racism, misogyny, xenophobia and approval of their feelings, and they found it neatly packaged by the love child of P.T. Barnum and Adolph Hitler.
Come on, #Joe. Stop the #Bull-sh’t. Do you think we all just fell out of a coconut tree?🌴… It’s time to send the letters. “Greetings, Two Years Plus The Duration”. #President-Elect-Weber 😊

So infuriating and motivating !

Spot on!!
You missed the mark? I spent 2 months writing about how it was going to be a Harris landslide. Tea leaves are hard. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/emotion-turned-the-tide?r=3m1bs

Ok, I listened. A few thoughts:
1. Stop apologizing. Almost everyone got it wrong

Can you provide a transcript for deaf readers?

There were so MANY reasons Harris lost.
It does look like the Dems ( possibly the richer ones ???) just did not turn out.
Staying home is a vote for the “other side”.
I agree with you - there was zero media for the Democrats. And there still is Zero media for us.
😢😢😢
I wonder if the mass of voters just do not understand HOW our Economy actually works !!
Lack of knowledge about how our country actually SHOULD works
The election was HACKED!
DO a HAND RECOUNT in the 7 swing states or at least AZ, MI, WI, & NC.
Read this. It details WHAT the hack was, HOW they accomplished the hack and HOW to proceed.
