If Democrats Repeat The 2024 Problem, They Will Lose Again
Democrats may have the stronger policy arguments, but until they learn to control the conversation, they’ll keep losing elections
Republicans spent the entirety of yesterday berating Dr. Anthony Fauci, an 85-year-old public servant who dedicated more than fifty years of his life to science and life-saving medical research.
And as ugly and unethical and despicable as the hearing was, I cynically understood the political reason behind Republicans’ decision to hold that hearing in the first place.
They put Fauci on trial to remind America of what life was like during COVID in an attempt to distract Americans from the reality they have created for us—where there is sky-high inflation, new wars, unstable financial markets, unaffordable housing and healthcare, all in a country controlled exclusively by Republicans in every branch of government.
As gross as the Fauci hearing was, do you see how it is now being discussed everywhere in the media, drawing attention away from all of the aforementioned problems I’ve bolded above?
GOP objective accomplished.
Republicans understand that in order to win elections, controlling the narrative is more important than delivering for the American people
Republicans are solely focused on winning races and maintaining power, more than they are improving the lives of everyday Americans. It’s their most detestable quality as public servants. But it’s their most effective quality as politicians, and it’s where they are far superior to Democrats—a party whose policies aim to improve the lives of Americans, but a party that is utterly incapable of controlling the narrative.
Republicans can fail on healthcare, fail to lower prices at the pump, fail to bring down grocery costs, fail to deliver on human rights, fail on addressing climate change, fail on foreign policy, can cause recessions—which they have virtually every time they’ve gotten into power—yet they always reclaim power because they are better at saying whatever needs to be said, and doing whatever needs to be done to win elections.
