Harris Sways GOP Voters, Trump Confronts Worst Swing State Data Yet
As Kamala Harris flips Republicans and sees a boost with gen z, Donald's campaign gets hit with a grim battleground update
Kamala Harris did exactly what she was supposed to do during her first solo interview on MSNBC, laying out her economic agenda in a way that was easy to understand and something voters can get behind.
First
Harris made it clear that anyone making less than $400,000 a year will not have their taxes raised, and promised to cut taxes for 100 million Americans.
She also vowed to raise taxes on the “biggest corporations and billionaires”, which a majority of Americans support.
Then
Harris contrasted her economic plan against Trump’s, saying: “He has an agenda that would include making it more difficult for workers to earn overtime, an agenda that would include cutting off access to small business loans for small businesses, an agenda that includes tariffs to the point that the average working person will spend 20 percent more on everyday necessities and an estimated $4,000 more a year on those everyday necessities.”
Not to mention, he plans to cut taxes for billionaires — which Harris also did a great job of explaining.
Finally
Harris reminded voters of how detrimental Trump’s presidency was for our economy, telling Ruhle: “Donald Trump made a whole lot of promises that he did not meet and, one would argue, broke…Trump left us with the worst economy since the Great Depression…Even before the pandemic, he lost manufacturing jobs, by most people’s estimates, at least 200,000.”
She nailed him to the wall.
And delivered a perfect message
When it comes to the economy, voters just want to know which candidate will save them money during tax season, which candidate will make it easier for them to get a job, and which candidate will help them put food on the table.
Unless you’re a billionaire or a Fortune 500 CEO, Harris is that candidate — and by doing this interview, more voters will see that her plan suits them better than Trump’s.
And it seems more Republicans are starting to feel that way
Several Republicans who previously worked for Nikki Haley’s campaign are now endorsing Harris for President.
The latest group includes the former co-chair of Haley’s Vermont campaign, and two of Haley’s former Michigan campaign leaders, who wrote: “As Republicans, we believe character and integrity matter…Now, we will vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, and we are encouraging other sensible Republicans to join us."
A big deal considering these Republicans are going against Haley (who backs Trump).
In my view
For Harris to flip these GOP voters — just three months after launching her candidacy — is the strongest sign yet that she's on track for victory.
Plus
A new poll from the Harvard Kennedy School's Institute of Politics shows Harris leading Trump by a whopping 31 points among likely voters aged 18 to 29.
Translation: Gen Z is coming to the table.
Which is bad news for Donald Trump, whose campaign now faces grim swing state data
Not only are Haley voters and young people bailing on Trump in droves, but the latest battleground numbers are some of the worst his campaign has seen:
