This morning on X, Elon Musk called Peter Navarro — Trump’s economic advisor — a “moron” for correctly stating that most of Tesla’s EV batteries and car parts come from Japan, Taiwan, and China.
Here’s what Navarro said on CNBC that triggered Musk: “We all understand that Elon's a car manufacturer. But he's not a car manufacturer — He's a car assembler. In many cases, if you go to his Texas plant, a good part of the engines that he gets (which in the EV case are the batteries) come from Japan and come from China. The electronics come from Taiwan.”
In response to being labeled a “car assembler” who imports his parts from Asia — a true statement — Musk went scorched-earth on Navarro, saying: “Navarro is truly a moron. What he says here is demonstrably false…Tesla has the most American-made cars. Navarro is dumber than a sack of bricks.”
What Navarro says is not “demonstrably false” — in fact, everything he said about Tesla was true.
